Seasonal advice: HAY FEVER and SUN CARE
HAYFEVER
THERAPIES, REMEDIES AND SUPPLEMENTS TO TRY:
Supplements:
Biocare’s hay fever supplements are:Muccolyte and Histazyme - use together when severe. phone: 0121 433 3727
Natural antihistamines = B group Vitamins + B5 100mg x2 + B6 100mg x 2 or 3 daily for under a year.
(Synthetic antihistamines are bone marrow depressants, they lead to damage of the liver tissue, and aggravate the bladder tissue).
Also, as with colds, take large doses of Vitamin C with bioflavonoids - 3 grams a day - to boost the immune system.
Some of my clients have been helped by the New Era homeopathic remedy H specially for hay fever & allergic rhinitis.
‘A Vogel’ do a range of hay fever remedies called Luffa available through good health shops or healthcare practitioners.
(Always use good quality supplements from healthcare practitioners).

Self-help and diet advice:
Avoid white flour and dairy products if at all possible apart from live yoghurt which contains natural antihistamines. All dairy products encourage mucus production and therefore congestion.
Cut down on cigarettes, alcohol, and caffeine.
Garlic is great for the immune system and therefore helps in the battle against pollen allergy.
Pressure on the webbing that is found between thumb and index finger has been known to help.
Gentle exercise in the fresh air can help you feel better even although there is a tendency of shutting yourself indoors with windows shut. However, using an ionizer at home and net curtains at the window all help to keep airborne irritants out of the house & atmosphere.
Put two drops of eucalyptus, camomile and lavender essential/aromatherapy oils in a bowl of freshly boiled water. Placing a towel over your head and your head over the water breathe the vapours in deeply. This works as a decongestant and an anti-inflammatory straight to the problem zone.
Also you can use these oils on a tissue and inhale the vapours during the day.
EYES: Sore eyes can be helped with a mild solution of witch hazel. Using an eye bath swish the water around the eye.
Soak some cotton wool in strong cold camomile and eyebright tea, or rose water.. Lie down with eyes closed and place the pads on the eyes and relax for 10 minutes or more.
SUN CARE: There has been plenty of advice in the newspapers this summer, much of which is common sense. For example: avoid sunbathing between 11am and 3pm, covering up with cool clothes of natural fibres, wear a sun hat, if wearing sandals be aware that the exposed feet are at risk of burning.
Using high factor sun creams are all very well but we must consider the chemicals contained in them - are they safe to use or they in themselves a risk to health. Two sun creams which appear to be safe:
Patrick Holford's recommendation - 'Environ's RAD Antioxidant' with a SPF of 16. and
A.Vogel's Eco Cosmetics Sun Tan Cream which is both natural and organic and will protect you without ruining the environment.
